The first African-American graduate from Bellarmine College Preparatory graduated before:
 

  • The first African-American, Dr. Ralph Bunche, won the 1950 Nobel Peace Prize.
  • Chuck Cooper, Nathaniel Clifton and Earl Lloyd broke the barriers into the NBA in1950.
  • The 1954 Brown vs The Board of Education court  case. 
  • The Desegregation of  the U.S. Armed  Forces in 1954.
  • Rosa Parks refused to give  up her seat on a bus, which started the 1955 Montgomery Bus  Boycott.
  •  The Little Rock Nine event of  1957.
  • The momentous MLK Jr “I Have a Dream Speech” of  1963
